The future of casing soils: sustainability
Kekkilä-BVB is systematically searching for an alternative, circular, and/or renewable materials to be used in casing soil as well as in other substrates to make them more sustainable.
"We always see safety as the most important aspect when considering any new material and especially when a circular material is in question, possibly in combination with microbial horticulture as in Bioschamp. A careful research on the performance of a new substrate in combination with research on the whole lifecycle from where any alternative material is sourced, to how it is transported, to what is being done with it after use will ensure future-proof sustainable growing media." - Kekkilä-BVB
Besides, one of the actions Kekkilä-BVB is taking to ensure its production of future casing soil and at the same time cutting its carbon intensity, is to build a new casing-soil production factory next to the harbour in Wanssum (NL).
